Uniquely Together – celebrate Neurodiversity!

On June 16th, we celebrate the positive power of neurodiversity and embrace the differentness of neurodivergent individuals. In 2024, London joins the ND Pride celebrations for the first time with a big live event. It’s a day of pride, created for and by the community, and supported by ND Pride UK projectleader Isabel Pollen, the Neurodiversity Foundation and the University of Westminster.

What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is a concept that refers to the diverse ways in which brains function, perceive, and understand the world. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing and appreciating the unique strengths and abilities that arise from neurological variations.

It advocates for providing the necessary support and accommodations to neurodivergent individuals so they can thrive in a society typically tailored to those who meet the norm. The core idea behind this concept is that this diversity is invaluable to society as a whole, even when it deviates from the conventional norm.

Autistics, ADHD individuals, gifted individuals, people with OCD, dyslexics (and many other neurodivergent groups) all possess unique thinking patterns, and their diversity and individuality enrich the world in many ways.

It is essential to acknowledge that neurodivergent individuals have something special to offer, and they may proudly embrace their own identity. Through Neurodiversity Pride, attention is drawn to this, both individually and collectively, both ceremonially and informally. Celebrate neurodiversity: Celebrate your own way!

Program & Activities

Program ND Pride London – June 13th 2024

ND Pride London - Live

Uniquely Together – celebrate Neurodiversity! Join us to celebrate neurodiversity with an open panel talk and music performances!

The University of Westminster is proud to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all, and we actively recognise and celebrate the value of different ways of thinking and processing information. However, we are aware that there is still a long path ahead towards inclusivity. As part of QHT Live Performance Projects we are organising a Neurodiversity Pride Day event – a celebration of all different and unique ways of processing the world around us. The event will include a panel talk with open Q&A to discuss what steps we can take going forward to create inclusive events, followed by a celebration through singing. Choirs will join together to share a few pieces from their repertoire, in a relaxed, ‘open rehearsal’ way, and finally encouraging everyone to join in and celebrate together through music!

We are bringing together a diverse group of academics, researchers, artists, neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals to share their perspectives and experiences, in particular in relation to artistic engagement, the benefits of art and what the future of inclusive arts looks like.
We will encourage a positive uplifting discussion on a few key themes:
  • Understanding Neurodiversity in and through Art: Exploring the spectrum of neurodiverse conditions and their impact on individuals’ interactions with the artistic and creative world.
  • Inclusive Practices: Discussing effective practices for creating inclusive artistic spaces – celebrating the wins!
  • Future Directions: What are the next actionable steps towards creating inclusive spaces and events where everyone feels welcome, heard and celebrated in their individual differences.

Join us to celebrate neurodiversity together!
